How do I read the NCERTs for the civil services examination?
First, not all NCERTs are necessary. As far as UPSC is concerned we need to go through only these 2 categories of NCERT books.
Requires thorough reading
- History : Old NCERTs 9th and 10th (World History), 11th and 12th (Ancient, Medieval and Modern) Geography: 11th and 12th
Requires 2–3 reading
- Social Sciences: 11th and 12th Political Science & Sociology (New NCERTs)
Thus you only have 7–8 NCERT books that you should know thoroughly and around 10 others which you should have atleast read more than 1 time. - Also, don’t fall into the NCERT trap of not referring to any other book while you are reading NCERTs.
